5G offers much faster connectivity to small and medium-sized enterprises

New research carried out by Onecom revealed that 72 per cent of SMEs believe 5G will make them more efficient and successful. The urgency for 5G has increased over the past few months with major operators rolling out 5G services in several cities across the UK.

According to the research, 22 per cent of SMEs plan to upgrade to 5G as soon as it becomes available to them with a further 23 per cent saying they will sign up to it within three months of it becoming available. 20 per cent said they would do so within three to six months.

The appetite for 5G comes from the potential benefits that SMEs expect it to bring. Four out of ten think that it will improve staff productivity and 36 per cent say it will enable employees to work more flexibly, including working remotely. 22 per cent say that 5G will enable them to launch new services.

Onecom CEO Ben Dowd said: “There is a lot of excitement around 5G, and we are certainly seeing growing interest from our clients in how this could boost their business and operations.

The opportunities 5G brings are compelling, but companies need to assess their specific needs first and how this new technology could meet these.

“The benefits of 5G will come as a result of an evolution as opposed to a revolution.”
