Samsung says five million Galaxy S handsets sold worldwide as Japanese launch announced

Manufacturer Samsung said it has sold more than five million Galaxy S smartphones worldwide since launching the device slightly over four months ago.

This includes sales of two million in the US and one million in Korea.

“The Galaxy S has been a phenomenal success in the global smartphone market,” Samsung said in a statement.

Both the Galaxy S (pictured right) and Galaxy Tab (pictured left) will be made available in Japan through local mobile operator NTT DOCOMO. The Galaxy S will go on sale in late October with the Tab in late November.

President and chief executive officer at NTT DOCOMO Ryuji Yamada said: “We expect our Japanese users to make full use of their high performance to experience the wonderful world of advanced mobile content and functionality.”
