Samsung to release limited edition Galaxy S III for Olympics

Handset to be sold exclusively through Carphone Warehouse from August 1 as manufacturer announces end-to-end solution for guests staying at the Holiday Inn near the Olympic Park

Samsung will release a limited edition London 2012 Olympic Games Galaxy S III from August 1, exclusively through Carphone Warehouse.

The handset will be available for free from £28 a month on tariffs across all the major UK mobile networks, as well as Talk Mobile.

The London 2012 Samsung Galaxy S III comes with a Team GB cover as well as an original cover, enabling customers to convert the smartphone back to its original design at any point.

Samsung UK and Ireland telecommunications and networks division vice president Simon Stanford said: “We are delighted to be able to offer Carphone Warehouse customers the chance to own this exclusive London 2012 Samsung Galaxy S III handset, combining the chance to support Team GB with owning a piece of cutting-edge Samsung technology.”

Meanwhile Samsung has launched an end-to-end solution for the new Holiday Inn London Stratford City hotel, situated next to the Olympic Park.

In partnership with Fingi, the Android app will enable the hotel to offer guests using the Samsung Galaxy S III a full suite of hotel services, such as express check-in/out, room service, laundry services and hotel facility booking, as well as the ability to use the smartphone as an in-room phone extension.

It also allows for integrated control of TVs, lighting, air conditioning and other audio-visual and in-room functions such as serving as the room key.

Users will also have access to a special Samsung and Holiday Inn ‘Olympic Newsletter’ and also provides local information and updates and results from the event.

The service will initially be available to VIPs staying at the hotel and will see 40 rooms equipped with the hospitality solution.

Stanford said: “Partnering with Fingi and Holiday Inn will provide guests with an effortlessly simple and intuitively smart service, enabling them to enjoy every aspect of the Games. This partnership will not only benefit consumers, but will set a precedent for the hospitality industry to enable guests to stay connected at all times.

Samsung has also launched its London 2012 Predictor app for the Games, providing content on the event on Android devices.

Friends can challenge each other using Facebook by predicting medal winners in Olympic Games events. The app contains information on athletes and teams, including their previous performances and career accolades.

Medal notifications are delivered instantly when an event finishes to enable users to keep updates with who got their prediction right.
