Operator launches 4G “Super-Voice” VoLTE service which already covers 50 per cent of UK population

Three has launched a new VoLTE service called “4G Super-Voice” to tackle indoor notspots.

Based on the rollout of Three’s 800mHz spectrum, it will allow users to make calls, send texts and access the internet in areas typically impacted by network blackspots, according to the operator.

4G Super-Voice already covers more than 50 per cent of the UK population, Three said, and has already rolled out in London, Birmingham, Edinburgh and Exeter. Cities including Manchester, Cardiff, Liverpool and Bristol will be added in the coming months.

Three said that it will have reached over 65 per cent of the population by the end of the year, and by 2017, Three expects 5.5 million customers to have access to the service.

Compatible devices at launch include the Samsung Galaxy S5, while the newly launched iPhone 6s and 6s Plus will be added at a later date.

Three chief technology officer Bryn Jones said: “By the end of the year, one million of our customers will have access to better indoor coverage and be able to use their phones in more places than ever before. We are proud to be the first network to roll this out across the country.
