Three UK appoints Hennessy as new CTO

Hennessy replaces the outgoing Buttsworth and remains as Three Ireland CTO

Three UK has announced the appointment of David Hennessy as its new chief technology officer (CTO).

The role will be familiar for Hennessy who has been Three Ireland CTO since 2008.

He will now lead a dual role in the technology and operations functions across both businesses, where he will be responsible for the network and IT systems.

Hennessy takes over the role from the outgoing Susan Buttsworth, who is departing the operator this June after 25-years service at CK Hutchinson.

The appointment has been welcomed by Three UK and Three Ireland CEO Robert Finnegan.

“I am delighted that David is taking on the CTO role across both our UK and Irish business. David’s depth of experience will be invaluable to improving the network experience to bring better connectivity, every day, for every customer.”

Experience

Hennessy has more than 20 years’ experience in the telecoms industry.

He also played a key part in Three Ireland’s radio network roll out following the acquisition of a 3G license in 2004.

His UK role will see him focus on delivering on Three’s £2bn investment in building out its 5G network, with the MNO occupying the UK’s largest 5G spectrum portfolio.

Commenting on his new role Hennessy said: “I am delighted to be expanding my responsibility to include Three’s UK network and IT transformation.

“I look forward to building on the strong foundations Susan has created and delivering a great experience for our customers.”
