Timico buys mobile app specialist Handheld PCs to strengthen product set for business customers

Unified communications service provider Timico has acquired Slough-based Handheld PCs in a move to strengthen its position as a provider of internet and communication services to the business sector.

Handheld PCs is a mobile applications specialist that has developed mobile business tools like the hand-e-pix photo management system and hand-e-forms mobile data collection service. Handheld PCs also offers mobile device management tools, mobile document editing functionality and BlackBerry technical support.

In addition, it can supply devices from Motorola, Intermec, HTC, RIM, Apple and Anoto to customers.

It is an independent software vendor registered in the BlackBerry Alliance Programme, is a member of the O2 Data Centre of Excellence, is a certified mobility partner with Microsoft and has a partnership with Orange.

Timico said the Handheld PCs business supports its existing work in providing next-generation networks, and extends its cloud-based hosting capabilities into mobile.

The takeover will see Handheld PCs’ staff relocate to Timico’s office in Fareham, Hampshire.

Timico Group chairman Tim Radford (pictured) said: “The addition of Handheld PCs allows us to make further progress in increasing our capability to address the growing demand for mobile-based applications, the management of the smartphone devices on which they reside and, in time, the integration of the mobile internet bearer into a corporate IP data network.”
