Former Vodafone regional sales manager Darren Welsh joins Welsh dealership The Word

Vodafone B2B dealer The Word has set a target of doubling its customer base to 30,000 and growing turnover to £13 million within five years following the appointment of Darryn Welsh (pictured) as sales and marketing director.

Welsh joins from Vodafone where he was regional sales manager for its central UK region. There he was responsible for managing and developing large SME business across the region, servicing existing customers and developing longer-term growth strategies.

Welsh will now lead a team of 15 sales people across mobile, fixed line and systems products, developing The Word’s business model to deliver unified communication solutions to new and existing customers.

In the last year The Word has made six key senior appointments with the latest recruits John Davis and Steven Bower joining the company in August as head of mobile and OneNet and senior systems engineer respectively.

The Word managing director Huw Siley said: “Darryn’s appointment is a strategic one for the company; it is a newly created role that we are confident will help us achieve our ambitious expansion plans. His knowledge of the communications market and relationships at Vodafone are sure to prove invaluable.

“His recent experience at Vodafone means Darryn already knows our regional market very well but he will also be pivotal as we look to expand across the border into England in order to double our customers base to 30,000 end users and grow turnover to £13 million by 2015.”

Welsh said: “This is a really exciting time to be joining The Word as it transforms from a provider of mobile and fixed network services to a unified communications business. This will ultimately deliver huge benefits to our customers as we become a true end-to-end communications provider.”
