Xiaomi unveils trio of entry-level Redmi phones

UK availability and pricing to come in the future

Xiaomi has announced three new devices in its entry-level Redmi portfolio.

The vendor’s senior marketing manager Daniel Desjarlais revealed the three devices on stage at Xiaomi’s Ecosystem Product Launch on July 15.

Xiaomi told Mobile News that the devices will come to the UK in the future, with more precise pricing and retail availability to be announced.

Redmi 9

The Redmi 9 runs Android 10 on a MediaTEk Helio G80 chipset, giving it a 107 per cent improved performance over its predecessor, according to Xiaomi.

It has a 6.53-inch FHD+ screen with Corning Gorilla Glass and a 5,200mAh battery. It will be available in 3GB RAM and 32GB storage, and 4GB RAM and 64GB storage variants, with European RRPs of €149 and €169 respectively.

The three colours on offer are Sunset Purple, Carbon Grey and Ocean Green, and expandable storage allows for up to 512GB.

It is the first Redmi device with a quad-camera setup, featuring a 13MP main sensor, 8MP ultra-wide lens, 5MP macro lens and 2MP depth sensor. The front camera is 8MP.

It also features NFC and a 3.5mm headphone jack.

Redmi 9C

The Redmi 9C runs Android 10 on a MediaTek Helio G35 chipset. It has a 6.53-inch screen with a 5,000mAh battery.

It has a triple camera setup, with a 13MP main camera, 5MP macro lens and 2MP depth sensor, with a 5MP front camera. It also has NFC capability.

It uses micro USB charging, has a 3.5mm headphone jack and comes in Midnight Grey, Sunrise Orange and Twilight Blue colours.

Redmi 9A

The Redmi 9A is the cheapest of the three new phones, with a European RRP of €99.

It runs on the MediaTek Helio G25 chipset, with 2GB RAM and 32GB storage, expandable up to 512GB.

It also has a 6.53-inch screen and a 5,000mAh battery. It has a single 13MP rear camera and a 5MP front camera.

However, the phone does not have NFC capability.

It uses micro USB charging, has a 3.5mm headphone jack and comes in Granite Gray, Peacock Green and Sky Blue colours.

As well as the Redmi phones, Xiaomi announced new electric scooters, smart bands, and wireless earphones at the launch event.
