Retailer opens its first stand alone shop but claims this is not a key focus for it or part of its overall strategy

Tesco Telecoms has opened its first independent ‘Phone Shop’. The store is located in Broadmead, Bristol, next to a Tesco Metro. It’s the retailer’s first telecoms outlet to operate separately away from its existing Phone Shops in Tesco supermarkets.

It offers the products and services seen in regular Tesco Phone Shops such as handsets on contract and prepay deals across all networks, including its own network Tesco Mobile, as well as phone accessories, top-ups and its international calling cards. Consumers can also earn Tesco Clubcard points with every purchase.

Tesco claimed the opening of this store is not a key focus for it. It said it decided to open the shop only because a unit next to the Metro became available. It added if another opportunity presented itself it would consider it, but it’s not part of its strategy.
