SFSY marked the contract completion by visiting a number of local businesses that have benefited from the faster speeds

Superfast South Yorkshire (SFSY) has completed its £27 million investment to deliver broadband to more than 95,000 residents and businesses across the region.

The rollout was completed today (September 23) as part of the Superfast South Yorkshire programme – a partnership made up of the South Yorkshire local authorities, Sheffield City Region Local Enterprise Partnership, UK Government and Openreach.

So far around 55,000 of the new enabled homes and businesses have signed up for the service.

An additional 10,000 homes and businesses will also be upgraded at a later date with download speeds of up to 1Gbps expected.

Minister for digital and broadband Matt Warman has welcomed the investment and insists “connectivity is high on the UK Government’s agenda.”

“We want to deliver world-class, gigabit-capable broadband across the country as soon as possible and have already committed more than £650 million for full fibre roll-out,” said Warman.
