Vodafone to upgrade Optical Express call centre

Vodafone says healthcare provider is already saving 40 per cent on its mobile and fixed line costs

Vodafone has agreed a deal with Optical Express Group to upgrade communications systems at the healthcare provider’s 250-person call centre in Glasgow.

Vodafone said that the call centre solution package will allow Optical Express to introduce new ways to let customers contact them, such as SMS and live chat.

Optical express, which offers optical, dentistry and other healthcare services, is already using a Vodafone MPLS data network to provide secure connections between its offices, call centres and stores in the UK and internationally.

Vodafone said the network is up to eight times faster than the firm’s previous system, and allows Optical Express to send high resolution images and electronic patient records.

Vodafone is also providing mobile voice and data services for Optical Express field staff.

Vodafone said that Optical Express is saving 40 per cent on fixed line and mobile costs as a result of a unified comms deal.

“Our professionals have BlackBerrys, so if they’re on the move they can respond to other staff – which may often mean a patient query can be sorted out in real time, avoiding the need for the patient to make a follow-up visit to one of our stores,” said Optical Express IT manager Craig Duffy.
