Announcement comes as Apple has a successful Q2

Apple has confirmed that it will launch its new iPhones later this year than it did last year.

In an earnings call with investors on July 30, Apple CFO Luca Maestri said: “Last year we started selling new iPhones in late September, this year we expect supply to be available a few weeks later.” He did not explain the reasoning behind the delay.

Maestri’s comments confirmed ongoing rumours of a delay. The most prominent evidence for a delay came from Qualcomm earlier this week. The chipmaker highlighted “partial impact from the delay of a global 5G flagship phone launch” when assessing its Q4 projections.

According to analyst firm Canalys, Apple was the only smartphone manufacturer to see growth in Q2, shipping 25 per cent more iPhones than in the previous year and seeing unusual growth in China.

Kantar also reported that Apple increased its market share across Europe, Australia, the US and Japan.

Apple’s chief market share rival Samsung is pushing ahead with its Galaxy Unpacked event next week, where it is expected to unveil a new Note device and a new foldable.
