The partnership will help drive BT’s digital transformation

BT Group has struck a five-year agreement with Amazon Web Services (AWS\) as part of plans to accelerate its digital transformation.

The telco’s digital unit has named AWS as its preferred cloud provider in a statement today (May 4).

This partnership will see AWS help BT Group to transform its legacy infrastructure and internal applications towards a new cloud-first architecture.

It comes as part of BT’s plans to save £2bn in savings by the end of 2024, with BT aiming to cut down on IT maintenance costs and ‘deliver better value for its consumer, enterprise, global and Openreach customers’.

“We have a big opportunity when it comes to modernising our infrastructure, and our collaboration with AWS is a key one for us as we deliver the transformation needed to accelerate BT,” said BT Digital chief operating officer.

BT added that it will invest heavily in AWS’ technology during the next five years, with application workloads a key focus.
