Retailer’s 10 best performing stores will stock the full range of iPhone 5 variants when the handset goes on sale tomorrow morning

Carphone Warehouse will prioritise customers that have pre-ordered the Apple iPhone 5 by opening nine of its best performing stores at 8am tomorrow morning when the device goes on sale.

The retailer’s top 10 shops will stock the full range of iPhone 5 variants – in black and white with either 16GB, 32GB or 64GB internal memory. Additional stores will also receive a limited supply.

Nine of the ten stores will open at 8am. These will be in London (White City Westfield, Stratford Westfield, 272-274 Oxford Street and Canary Wharf), Commercial Road in Portsmouth, Metro Centre in Newcastle, New Street in Birmingham, Trafford Centre in Manchester and Briggate in Leeds.

Carphone’s store in the Braehead Shopping Centre in Glasgow will open at 9.30am.

On Tuesday, Carphone said it had taken four times as many pre-orders for the iPhone 5 than any other handset since it began trading in 1989.

Carphone Warehouse chief commercial officer Graham Stapleton said: “Demand for this handset has been unprecedented. The number of pre-orders we’ve received has been astronomical and we do not want to disappoint those customers who have taken the time to register in advance, expecting to receive their handset on launch day.

“We’ve selected our top performing stores nationwide to offer customers who haven’t pre-ordered the chance to get their hands on all variants of this fantastic new device as soon as it’s available. However, handset stock will be limited so Apple fans who are keen to get an iPhone 5 tomorrow should prioritize these stores and arrive early.”
