More than 100 people wait overnight outside flagship Apple store to buy latest handset

The iPhone 5 has gone on sale around the country with retailers opening at 8am to meet demand from queuing customers.

London’s flagship Apple store in Regent Street saw around 100 queuers staying overnight before today’s release (September 21) with some trying to sell seats in the queue for triple-figure sums to passers-by in the early hours of the morning.

Several other retailers also opened early to meet demand for the device having taken pre-orders since last Friday.

Earlier this week Carphone Warehouse and Phones 4u both reported pre-orders for the handset had broken pre-sale records.
