Data Select team aiming to raise £2,500 for Ataxia UK

Five employees taking on the Spartan Race and Back 2 The Trenches obstacle courses to raise money for charity searching for a cure to degenerative condition Friedreich’s Ataxia

Data Select is aiming to raise more than £2,500 for charity Ataxia UK, with five members of staff taking on two assault courses.

Gio Lo Nigro, Jamie Hill, Gary Andrews, Scott Powell and Nathan John (pictured) will be competing in both the Spartan Race on August 30 (5km obstacle course) and Back 2 The Trenches on September 21 (10km obstacle course). Both events take place in London.

Durable handset manufacturer CAT phones is sponsoring the team, who are raising the money for Friedreich’s Ataxia. The degenerative condition, which affects movement, balance and speech, is on close to the heart of Data Select managing director Roy Taylor, as his has stepson suffers from it.

More than 10,000 people in the UK have a form of Ataxia, and there is currently no known cure.

Team leader Gio said: “Me and the lads wanted to get fit over the summer and somehow landed on the decision to do two challenges back-to-back. Then knowing of Roy’s family circumstances, it made sense to raise money for Ataxia.”
