The two companies are also working together to deliver 5G connectivity to millions of EE customers across the UK.

Ericsson has been named as EE’s network partner for The Green Planet AR Experience which will demonstrate 5G standalone technology.

The augmented reality (AR) experience is powered by Edge Computing and a 5G Standalone (SA) private network trial which showcases the technologies capabilities.

Inspired by the series The Green Planet, the immersive experience will take guests on a journey into the world of plants.

A 5G private network and Edge Computing infrastructure will be established to render AR graphics where visitors can travel through six digitally enhanced worlds including rainforests and desert landscapes.

Visitors will use a Samsung Galaxy S21 smartphone to discover the kingdom of plants from their perspective.

Ericsson UK & Ireland CEO Katherine Ainley commented on The Green Planet AR Experience: “It shows how 5G, and especially 5G Standalone, can be used to create new immersive experiences for consumers that can help to transform our society and build a better understanding of our planet.”

BT Group MD of network Greg McCall added: “Using the capability of Edge Computing and a Standalone 5G network developed in partnership with Ericsson, we’re able to inspire greater responsibility towards our planet at a time it’s never been more important.”

The experience will open to the public at 55 Regent Street on February 11.
