First curved smartphone to hit the UK will be available from £52 a month with a £79 upfront cost, or £42 a month as part of an upgrade with no handset cost when it goes on sale next month

Carphone Warehouse has started taking online pre-orders for the LG G Flex smartphone. It will be the first curved smartphone to launch in the UK when it goes on sale in the UK next month.

The G Flex will be available for £52 a month with a £79 handset cost, or £42 a month as part of an upgrade with no handset cost.

The smartphone went on display exclusively at 10 EE stores from December 20, with customers able to get hands-on with the device until the operator also begins selling it next month.

The G Flex, which is vertically curved to follow the shape of the human jaw, is powered by a quad-core 2.26GHz processor and runs on the Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean operating system.

It has a six inch HD touchscreen, 13 megapixel rear and 2.1-megapixel front cameras, 2GB of RAM and 32GB of internal memory.

The handset is also the first to feature LG’s self-healing technology. The elastic back coating absorbs minor scratches and can recover its original appearance in just under a minute.

Other features include ‘QTheatre’, which provides direct access to media content from the lock screen and ‘Swing Lockscreen’, which alters the image displayed when the phone is locked according to how the G Flex is held.

The G Flex was unveiled in October before going on sale in LG’s home market of Korea last month. It also went on sale in Hong Kong and Singapore at the start of last month.

Samsung announced the world’s first curved smartphone – the Galaxy Round – on October 9 before it went on sale in Samsung’s home market of Korea a day later. However, it is different to the G Flex as the screen is horizontally curved, with Samsung yet to reveal if it will be sold in the UK.
