Smartphone now on Phones 4U’s website with in-store availability following on Friday; O2 to begin selling device from November 27, with Carphone ranging it from December 11

Phones 4U, O2 and CArphone Warehouse have confirmed they will both stock the Moto G – the first device launched in the UK developed under Motorola’s Google ownership.

The Moto G is available to buy now from Phones 4U’s website, and will be available to buy in its 700 stores this Friday.

It will be available for free on tariffs from £11 a month on contract. It is also £199.95 on prepay with £10 of airtime and £134.95 SIM-free. Customers will also receive an exclusive white back cover.

Phones 4U chief commercial officer Scott Hooton said:  “There’s a huge amount of buzz at Phones 4u as we prepare to welcome Motorola’s new handset into our stores and online. It’s been an incredibly busy, exciting and innovative year for handset launches, and as the countdown to Christmas quickens we know appetite for new smartphones is high, and we expect the new Moto G to be under a lot of trees this Christmas.”

The Moto G will be available to buy at O2 from November 27, costing £129.99 on prepay.

It will also be available on O2’s Pay & Go Go Go tariff. This starts at a £10 top-up and provides the customer with 75 minutes, 500 texts and 250MB data, with five per cent of their top-ups back when they first take out the plan.

These allowances are doubled after three months, with O2 doubling the amount customers get back on their top ups to 10 per cent. Those who stay on the tariff receive unlimited texts after nine months.

O2 general manager for devices David Johnson said: “With the Moto G, Motorola are definitely back with a bang. The quad-core power and high-end specifications of the Moto G is one of the best ways for first time buyers to experience everything Android has to offer, and at such an affordable price.”

Carphone Warehouse will begin selling the Moto G from December 11, priced at £149 on prepay.

Mobile technology advisor for the retailer David Phelan said: “Hot on the heels of the highly popular Google own-brand phone, the Nexus 5, the Moto G offers plenty of bang for not many bucks – in fact, it’s the cheapest quad-core device on the market. This is a slick, powerful phone that’s bound to attract a wide audience. It’s ideal for someone looking for all the latest functionality without the wallet busting price tag associated with many smartphones and is likely to be a very popular gift this Christmas.”

Motorola UK general manager Andrew Morley added: “Everybody deserves to be on the mobile Internet, and price shouldn’t stand in the way of anyone having a truly good smartphone to get them there. Moto G is a smartphone that delivers a premium experience for a third of the price of current high-end phones. Quite simply, it’s an exceptional phone at an exceptional price.”

The Moto G is powered by a quad-core 1.2GHz processor and runs Android 4.3 Jelly Bean with a guaranteed upgrade to Android 4.4 KitKat. It has a 4.5-inch HD touchscreen, five megapixel rear camera, 1.3-megapixel front camera and HD video playback and recording.
