Latest addition to manufacturer’s smartphone portfolio now on sale at Carphone Warehouse, Phones 4u and O2

The Sony Xperia Z1 Compact has gone on sale in the UK through Carphone Warehouse, Phones 4u and O2, available in black, white, green and pink.

It is cheapest at Carphone where it is free on an O2 contract for £27 a month with 300 minutes, unlimited texts and 500MB of data.

The Xperia Z1 Compact, which is a smaller version of its flagship Z1 smartphone released last year, was unveiled at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas earlier this month.

It is powered by a quad-core 2.2GHz processor and runs Android 4.3 Jelly Bean, as well as being dust proof and the ability to be kept under up to 1.5 metres of water for 30 minutes.

The Xperia X1 Compact has a 4.3-inch HD touchscreen and includes Sony’s Mobile BRAVIA Engine 2, which the manufacturer said enhances screen contrast and sharpness. The screen also includes Sony’s X-Reality for mobile, which finds and reproduces any lacking pixels.

It has a 20.7 megapixel camera with Sony’s Exmor RS for mobile imaging sensor and BIONZ for mobile imaging processor, which Sony said ensures it has fast auto-focus and highly stable images for video shooting.

Also included is a two megapixel front camera, HD video recording, up to 16GB of internal memory that can be extended by 64GB with a microSD card and Sony’s Battery STAMINA Mode, which automatically turns off functions to save power when they’re not needed and restarts them when they are needed.
