Melis brings 14 years of experience to the role after a long stint at Italian operator Wind Tre

Three UK has announced the appointment of former Wind Tre man Carlo Melis as Chief Network Officer.

Melis is tasked with continuing Three’s network transformation, as the operator seeks to enhance its 4G and 5G networks.

He joins the operator from Italian telecom operator Wind Tre, where he spent 14 years.

During his tenure at Wind Tre Melis held several senior roles across network and technology integration.

He also helped the network integration following the merger of Wind and 3 Italia.

Three UK COO Susan Buttsworth has welcomed his appointment as a boost for the operator.

“His extensive experience in network strategy and architecture will be vital to delivering the maximum customer benefit from our multibillion investment in technology.”

On his appointment Melis added: “Three has been on an incredible journey, completely overhauling its network and IT infrastructure and laying the foundations for a 5G network that will dramatically transform the experience for its customers, at the same time as delivering major 4G improvements.”

Melis started his role at Three UK in April.
